An enterprising Friar Lawrence is offering socially distanced confessions, online. Lady Macbeth and Prospero are both regulars. Even Boris Johnson has been known to pop in.

Unfortunately for the friar, his pharmaceutical business is failing, he’s being stalked by a randy nurse, and he probably shouldn’t have become quite so involved in Romeo’s ridiculous love life.

A hilarious and irreverent re-telling of Shakespeare’s classic love story, Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence’s Confessional will particularly appeal to secondary schools who want their students to engage with Shakespeare in a different way.

Friar Lawrence’s Confessional was originally presented online by Creation Theatre Company in 2021. It runs at just over an hour. The stage production is a one man show, with the remaining characters appearing via ‘Zoom’ on a projection screen behind the friar.
